Psychoanalytics on the study of perversions

Abstract

This paper discusses the classic concept of perversion, its indiscriminate use in everyday language and confusing employment with other terms such as: perversity and perverse tendency. The formulation of the concept within the psychoanalytic field is similarly analyzed, bringing it closer to a condition of structure and moving it away from a purely phenomenological issue. A tour is made from Freud and other contemporary authors about the mechanism used in perversion in terms of the splitting of the self, thereby enabling its delimitation with respect to other structures.
