Introduction: KIPS is an observational instrument that allows assessing the quality of parental practices of mothers and fathers of children aged two to 71 months. Objective: Evaluate inter-judge agreement and other psychometric properties. Method: A team of certified evaluators encoded 30 recordings of mothers playing with their sons and daughters. In pairs, the videos were scored separately. Mothers also answered the Alabama Self-Report Questionnaire. Results: KIPS has adequate inter-judge agreement and reliability indices. It showed an acceptable internal consistency and moderate negative convergence with inconsistent parental practices evaluated by self-report. Conclusions: It allows to reliably assess mother-child interactions. The possibility of training by e-learning, simplicity of application and correction make it a viable alternative for the observational evaluation of parental practices in our context.
