Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to analyze the relationship between coping strategies used in the face of the breakdown of a relationship and psychological well-being. Participants were 227 people, men and women, between 18 and 35 years old, residing in the city of Concepción, Chile, and who had ended a stable relationship in the last twelve months. Coping strategies were evaluated with the CSI Coping Strategies Inventory and psychological well-being with the Ryff Psychological Well-being Scale modified by Diaz. The results show a positive relationship between avoidance coping strategies, seeking social support and emotional expression with psychological well-being; In addition, there is a negative relationship between self-criticism and deiderative thinking with the dimension of well-being called positive relationships with others.
