Keywords:
Depression, Suicidal IdeaAbstract
The main objective of this study is to describe the levels of depression and suicidal ideation in gendarmerie officials of the Acha complex and the CIP-CRC of the city of Arica and Parinacota. The investigation was quantitative, cross-sectional, and was carried out in a sample made up of 26 officials. For this study the following tests were applied: Beck depression inventory (BDI-II) and Beck's suicidal ideation scale (ISB Beck, Kovacs & Weissman, 1979). Likewise, special emphasis is placed on sociodemographic variables and work shifts. These indicators were compared to show the relationship of the dimensions of the depression questionnaire and the suicidal ideation questionnaire and how they affect each other. According to the results obtained in the research, it is observed that depression is different from the usual variations of mood and brief emotional responses to the problems of everyday life. This can become a serious health problem, when it is of long duration and moderate to severe intensity, and can even cause suffering and alterations in work activities.
