Abstract

In 2013, the end of the Yasuní-ITT Initiative was announced, a situation that generated great reactions in the population, which were evidenced in social networks. In the present investigation, we analyze the emotions lived, expressed and read through social networks from 2007 to 2013. To this end, a questionnaire created for research was applied, focusing on the emotions raised, published and read through the social networks to subjects who actively commented on news related to this initiative through social networks. The results show congruence between the emotions lived, read and published by the subjects through social networks during the periods analyzed. Finally, it is concluded that although research has limitations, social networks can be a good thermometer of the emotions that the population lives. Therefore it is recommended to continue with the same line of research in the future. It is also concluded that the procedure used maximized the advantages and minimized the classical disadvantages in online studies.
