This research was carried out with the purpose of analyzing the relationship of a couple living in free union in the city of La Paz. Based on the identification of the concept of love, the type of love story, the expectations, the marriage contract, the form of family organization, the parental relationships and the relationships of the couple's families of origin. Through information obtained through an in-depth interview that was conducted individually, studied under the thematic analysis. The research was based on Sternberg's theory: the Triangular Theory of Love and other theories belonging to the other categories. Within the results, throughout the interview, two new categories (love story and expectations) were increased and other sub-categories were eliminated obtaining a deeper scope in relation to the objectives that were initially intended. It could be concluded that the two new categories impact and are fundamental in the relationship of the couple and are related to the concept of love identified in the couple. Regarding the decision to live in a free union, it was concluded that the couple opts for this type of coexistence because they consider marriage as a legal contract that does not guarantee stability in the relationship nor is it necessary to start a family in addition to being a type of "antiromantic" union.
