The present work was oriented to the analysis of the types of family structures and the resources available to the families under investigation, who had a son or daughter with intellectual disabilities. The characteristics of these structures and the resources they possessed, before the birth of the child with a disability, were compared with the changes that occurred after the birth of said subject, to determine their level of adaptability to the new situation. The research was carried out with a qualitative methodology, through in-depth interviews with three families who had a son to daughter with intellectual disability between 6 and 10 years, who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study.
