Qualitative evaluation of an intervention program on teenage pregnancy at the Cerro los García Community Council. Venezuela

Introduction: Socio-educational interventions in adolescents constitute a powerful pedagogical tool to minimize the frequency of adolescent pregnancy in the long term. Objective: Qualitatively evaluate an Adolescent Pregnancy Intervention Program (PIEA) in the “Cerro Los García” Community Council. Method: Qualitative evaluation of constructivist type, was used as qualitative techniques: focus groups for discussion and for the analysis of impressions, meanings and experiences during the talks, the Matrix of Analysis by Contrast (Data Triangulation) was used. Results: It was found that there is still ignorance about the organic functioning of sexual organs in adolescents, as well as, little communication between parents and adolescents, revealing the inalienable guiding role of parents regarding these issues in front of their children. Conclusion: The PIEA carried out during research was successful as soon as it was possible to clarify erroneous definitions and perceptions regarding sexual physiology and contraception methods, such as: sexuality, birth control pills, communication, menstrual cycle, sexual desire, sexual stimulus-response, puberty changes related to sexuality, sex education.
