Willingness to bribe:
contextual influences and cognitive implications of corrupt behavior
Keywords:
Corrupt behavior, Contextual analysis, Willingness to BribeAbstract
This research studied the willingness to offer bribes from a contextual perspective, presenting the participants (N = 300, with a mean age of 21.23 and a Standard Deviation of 2.11), university students of both sexes, residents of two Bolivian cities, a Likert questionnaire, reproducing different contexts. The results showed that the willingness to offer bribes is expressed with different forces depending on the context in which it is presented, mainly influenced by the need for results. Likewise, certain sociodemographic variables (professed religion and ethnicity) interacted with the context, acquiring predictive characteristics for this provision. It was also demonstrated that the circumstances that favor bribery facilitate the momentary disengagement of the norms and principles that regulate moral conduct. Finally, it was evident that possessing values that orient the individual towards the search for power and pleasure are also predictors of corrupt behavior.
