Pillars of resilience in police officers, faced with a physical disability acquired in an act of service

Abstract

An investigation was conducted, of a qualitative empirical method, of narrative design, of autobiographical character, with the taking of three cases, in police officers of the Province of Buenos Aires who acquired a physical disability in the act of service. The aim was to generate the meeting point between disability and resilience, since it was tried to determine in the scenario of physical disability acquired in service act the different pillars of resilience, to observe the characteristics that are usually successful for this type of attitude. The acquired physical disability is considered as a traumatic situation where the subject must go through the event, having different types of reactions; one of them is a resilient attitude; In order to discover which mitigates, mostly, the negative impact was sought to know if pillars of resilience could be established, as a way of coping with a physical disability, as a result of an act of police service.
