Implicações dos traços de personalidade para a prática da atividade física

A prevalência de adultos que praticam exercício físico insuficiente para obter benefícios para a saúde é elevada. Inúmeros factores estão relacionados com a manutenção da atividade física. Entre eles, os traços de personalidade podem promover ou dificultar a atividade física regular. No entanto, há pouca evidência documentada para o contexto latino-americano. O objetivo do presente estudo foi descrever as associações entre traços de personalidade, níveis de atividade física e comportamento sedentário em adultos residentes na província de Buenos Aires. Um total de 376 indivíduos participaram através do preenchimento do Inventário Big Five e do Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física em suas versões abreviadas. Foram realizadas análises de associações e comparações entre traços e medidas de atividade física. Foram encontradas correlações positivas para a atividade física com os traços de extroversão e abertura, enquanto foram observadas correlações negativas com o neuroticismo. Além disso, verificou-se que os participantes com níveis mais elevados de atividade física apresentavam pontuações mais elevadas em extroversão, agradabilidade e abertura à experiência, enquanto os participantes com níveis mais baixos de atividade física apresentavam pontuações mais elevadas em neuroticismo. Os resultados actuais são consistentes com investigações anteriores em diferentes populações.
