Emotional intelligence and its relationship with Burnout Syndrome, perceived stress and commitment in a sample of university students from the city of Arica

The present study aims to describe the Academic Burnout Syndrome in a sample of university students from the city of Arica. The sample consisted of 217 students, of which 73.3% are women and 26.7% are men, from the careers of Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology and Kinesiology. The instrument used was the Maslach Burnout Inventory adapted to the academic population. The design of this research is quantitative cohort, ex retrospective post facto, transversal and correlational descriptive scope. The results showed that Emotional Intelligence works as a moderating factor in the prevention of the appearance of Academic Burnout Syndrome and Perceived Stress. Thus, by intervening Emotional Intelligence, students could reduce the symptoms of Stress and Burnout and enhance emotional bonding, energy and motivation in the face of academic activities and demands (Engagement).
